Physical Therapy


Is an area in health care specializing in the evaluation and treatment of neurological, muscular and skeletal disorders. The goal of rehabilitation is to restore maximum function, strength, balance and coordination focusing on gross motor control to achieve functional mobility and independence. The physical therapist is the professional responsible for attaining the highest level of mobility and independence in the areas of bed mobility, the ability to get up from the floor to stand or to sit in a chair, to stand up from a chair, ambulate on all surfaces, climb up stairs and down, stoop down to the floor, run and to strengthen all areas necessary to participate in sports, work and daily function for gross motor skills.

There are various areas of specialty for example, orthopedics, neurology, cardiac care, woman’s health, pediatrics, chronic pain among others. In the treatment of children, physical and occupational therapy are similar especially when the child is very young. The treatment goal is to promote better neurological development, improving both gross and fine motor performance in balance, coordination, muscle strength, motor planning and cognitive function.
