LINDA SYDNEY MERMELSTEIN


Master in Physical Therapy

Master in the University of Southern California.

Linda first graduated with a Bachelors degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from George Washington University in 1985 and completed her Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California in 1991. During her 3 years as a student in the Master’s program, Linda worked in a hospital with acute care patients as well as orthopedics. She then spent 2 years working with adult stroke and brain injury patients in Neurorehabilitation and also in nursing home care before turning her focus to pediatrics. Linda spent some time working in neonatal intensive care in the area of positive sensory stimulation and feeding premature infants. This area was a nice combination of her speech and physical therapy background of which she is currently using in the SOS Approach to Feeding Program for Picky Eaters. She has taken extensive continuous education course work in Myofascial Release MFR, CranioSacral Therapy CST, Sensory Integration SI, Osteopathic Mobilization, Kinesiotaping, Yoga and Pilates for the Child with Special Needs, Pelvic PT for women’s health, the SOS Approach to Feeding Children, Total Motion Release for Pediatrics etc.…. Linda treats newborns to infants and babies during the early years (0-3) for early intervention, young children to further work on improved motor function and quality movement, adolescents with scoliosis and adults with chronic neck and back pain and mild orthopedic injuries such as tendonitis, sprains and strains. The children she treats have varied diagnoses from Hypotonicity, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Generalized Developmental Delay, Rare Syndromes, and Epilepsy among some. Linda describes herself as a personal trainer for children with developmental needs.

Clinica RED was established in 2003 to provide interdisciplinary care for our patients integrating Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy. As administrator of Clinica RED, Linda brings her passion, varied experience, teamwork approach and support of professional growth to each of the therapist’s who work with her side by side. Linda is dedicated to promoting that all therapists at Clinica RED provide specialized care based on the needs of each client and family. She supports the professional team in terms of materials needed, interdisciplinary consultation and growth in continuing education.

Linda believes that there is more than one road to reach an outcome and there is more than one treatment technique to provide results. Linda strives for the goal of clinical excellence for each patient by providing a variety of methods, discarding those that are not working for a particular patient, encouraging family involvement at home, searching for new techniques and consulting with our other therapists and medical professionals when needed. Each case is unique, there are no fast fixes and we are dedicated to supporting the process for best quality movement, function and care.
